What causes efflorescence?
Concrete is a porous material and absorbs moisture form the soil surrounding your home. It allows the moisture to move through the concrete foundation and when it evaporates it leaves sediments of minerals found in the surrounding soils. Overtime a white-colored powdery substance becomes present on your foundation walls.
Most often people think that the solution to preventing efflorescence by cleaning the walls using some type of cleaning solution you can buy from the store, but the only way to prevent this from happening is by stopping the moisture from coming into your home. The methods for doing so depend on the condition of the foundation wall. If the moisture is coming in from cracks in your foundation, then the solution would be to repair the crack through injections or other methods. We do offer other solutions that will allow your basement walls to look better while protecting your home from moisture and humidity.
